Minimizing injuries is, of course, hugely--and in my impression, increasingly--important. So I was  interested to read about Liverpool's approach. Not too much was given away. (Understandable: if a team knew how to do it, why would they make that information public?) But one point made was that they played a lot of exhibition games which, in the manager's view, better prepared them for their heavy post-Christmas schedule.  Struck me as counter-intuitive.
