It would take a bit of convincing for me to believe that this is a good use of about $15 billion.
This has always been true, but it's especially true in these days where simply everything is political.
Only three examples are cited, but maybe they do indicate the beginning of a trend.
The inimitable Michael Fumento:

There are a number of indications that charter schools, and school choice generally, are winning the political battle. But unfortunately, there are still unbelievably dopey stories like this. (Having looked at the school's web site, another reason for opposition to the school suggests itself: they are partners with an object of Liberal hate, Hillsdale College.)
For the nth time I note once more: modern cosmology is weird.
