"Basic Truths about Oil"

Erick Erickson notes that oil hit a record high of  $147.90 on July 14, 2008, but that the price fell the next day and by the end of the week it was down 12% and it was $30/barrel by that November. He asks what happened on July 15?

Answer: Erickson claims that the fall was due entirely to President Bush announcing he was authorizing offshore oil exploration and that "oil is bought in a futures market, not a present market."
