Gregg Easterbrook reviews a new book by President Bush's Council on Bioethics.

I haven't read the book. But if Easterbrook's characterization is correct, the book advances an amazing amount of concern, angst even, about scientific advances that could greatly improve our lives. Advances, it should be pointed out, that people will be free to take advantage of or not, as they choose.

Amazing. Depressing.

It's as if the Amish had demanded in 1900 that we not go ahead with planes and cars because, gosh darn it, they didn't want them.
