But I'd add: doing research on health and nutrition is difficult and expensive, so a lot of it is not done well, and that's made worse by the incentive to announce "newsworthy" results.

And there are NO incentives to try to duplicate other people's research to verify or refute.

In addition, never forget the overpowering U.S.A. cultural bias holding that you must always Do Something - even when you don't know what to do, even when doing nothing for the time being might be better.
