The infamous London Whale trade went bad in part because of a bad Excel spreadsheet.
No surprise to me but then I had a dad who was fond of saying, "To err is human. But to really mess up, you need a computer."

I got a free program called Openoffice which does what MS office does but is open source code, works pretty good. I know this is only tangential to the story but thought I would share.
