Edward Glaeser, economics professor at Harvard--neither he, individually, nor Harvard, collectively, are known to me to be members of the vast right-wing conspiracy--argues that Repubican Party ideas have been demonstrably better in decreasing crime, supporting needed reform in K-12 education, and providing urban services, including sensible land-use policy.
Who would have thunk it?
