Rock Friday
"Early R.E.M. set surfaces". From one of their first shows, February 1981. Sure looks like Stipe's having fun.
"Generals," The Mynabirds.
"Scarlett Begonias," The Grateful Dead. "China Cat Sunflower/I Know You Rider," ditto.
"The 25 Most Ridiculous Band Names in Rock History". I'll leave the ones they missed as an exercise for the reader.

Re: The ridiculous band names
Who the hell decided that Hootie and the Blowfish were the official band of the PGA? Yecch.
I remember (35 years ago) my good friend freaking out when he learned "All the Young Dudes" by Mott the Hoople was a gay anthem. "But I love that song, man!"

Whoa.
I'd have to dig in some old shoe boxes, but I have a few stills of REM playing the amphitheater at Meredith College circa 1985.
