A problem, honestly, I didn't know we had: the "Bob Famine"

We need a emergency federal investigation into this: "The Bob Famine: Athletes Aren't Named 'Bob' Anymore And There's Nothing We Can Do About It".

One factor: Many black men today dislike or take umbrage at having their full name shortened into a nickname.

That, combined with the fact that "Robert" is no longer a commonly-given name (particularly for black males), may account for the shortage of "Bob"s among todays professionsl athletes.

Robert Griffin III is a great athlete, but can you imagine him going by "Bob?" Instead, he's got the trendy "RG3" nickname.

I had a friend at school called Bob, he now insists on being called Robert, how times have changed
