"8 Technologies to Change Your Future"

I don't know anything about it, but number 5, "Powered by Thorium," sounds amazing.

(Related: see "Nuclear's next generation".)

I've been biased against electric cars since my dad worked on such a project that was funded by the Carter administration. The others seem reasonable, although a couple would need to overcome political obstacles.

"The first nuclear reactor fueled by thorium will be built in about five years, with more to come."

No, not really. The US Navy has been running submarine reactors on thorium for decades.

If they mean "first civilian pwer generation from thorium" then perhaps.

Fun fact: there was one year when I was responsible for some 70% of the civilian trade in thorium in the US for the year. All 13 lbs of it.

(I bought some off the US Navy....)

I am horrified by any attempt to beam power to the earth in the form of concentrated microwaves. What would be the effect upon our atmosphere? We have to know this first.

Kyle8: Don't worry about it. People have been investigating the technology of orbiting solar power
plants for FORTY years. Building and operating such things economically has always been the
fly in the ointment, not safety.

Trying Googling SOLAR POWER SATELLITE or PETER GLASER.
