"America's Safest [Big] Cities"
Forbes analysis using four factors: violent crime, workplace fatality rate, traffic death rate, and natural disaster risk. Minneapolis-St. Paul wins and Miami-Fort Lauderdale loses.
Surprising to me was the city that ranked worst on the workplace fatality rate: Indianapolis.

There is some massive variance in those metro areas. If people are wondering how Detroit ranked 12, it's because the city proper may be the nation's murder capital, the suburbs are ranked among the safest places to live. Too little value is placed on violent crime in these rankings, in my opinion. You can take steps to protect yourself from traffic fatalities (e.g. drive a Honda).

Yeah, I live in one of the safest cities in the US, and I'm only 25 minutes from downtown Detroit, and in the same county.

Kind of a way to lie with statistics. Houston ranks very low on the list, but Houston's suburbs (where most of the population is) are quite low crime and peaceful areas. Furthermore they include Baytown wich is much further out than the other suburbs and is an area where the oil industry and the roughnecks prevail. There are a dozen titty bars on each block so naturally that is a high crime area.
