Novel, for sure. William Baldwin, writing in Forbes, argues "Don't put any more money in your tax-deferred retirement savings."
I'm not sure about it, but he does raise three interesting points.

The answer, as with any investment, is diversity. Diversify your tax liabilities by utilizing all of the above: muni's, roth 401k, and traditional 401k.
