Joe Queenan offers a spirited defense of New York City. But since 1) it comes partly at the expense of Raleigh-Durham, where I live and 2) there was yesterday's post about the outrageous cost of living in NYC, his defense fails to persuade. He can have the Vermeers.

Raleigh sucks so bad. Too many fake, hypocritical jesus freaks, too much racial tension, no culture. No joke, it is like mashed potatoes.

I am leaving this place...

I have less than two years before I get the hell out of "the triangle" (I live in Apex now, but have lived all over Wake county) and get back to UPSTATE new york (so get your little arrogant ass NYC, rude, loud, expensive stereotypes outta the way, I'm moving to Rochester, the friendliest city in the USA 7 YEARS IN A ROW and the 5th most affordable metro area in the country, more affordable than the triangle) RDUCH (Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill) is made out to look like this utopia place where nothing ever goes wrong and it never will. Gimme a break, Raleigh isn't some superior immaculate, untouchable metropolis at all, hell, it's not even a metropolis at all. It's all suburban sprawl that will eventually collaps in on itself because it is soo spread out and gas prices will soon make it damn mear impossible to navigate (there is NO public transportation here except for the "CAT" busses, and those are just down right scary) Every city has prosporus and depressed times. Raleigh will not be exempt from this, eventually, this "booming economy" will be down the tubes, and it will see the same decline as all ciies do. This is a matter of decades. So right now, when all of thse people are abandoning their hometowns to come to this "perfect place" they are screwing themselves over down the road. Think about it, what makes the economy of a place? It's people. So if all of the people move from economically depressed places, to Raleigh, guess what happens... THE SAME PEOPLE SCREW UP THE PLACE THE SAME WAY!! How can people not realize this? Not to mention that Raleigh has the destinction of being the most BORING metro area on earth. Apex High School (students and staff) try to get people to come to their sporting events by saying " Why not come to the game, it's not like there's anything else to do in Apex anyways" Raleigh-Durham needs to get over itself, get off of it's pedistal and admit that it has problems. It's tremendous growth will be its downfall, which it is already prooving in many ways... traffic, extremely overcrowded schools, total sprawl. Give it a few decades and see if it's still rated as one of the areas with the "highest quality of life"........... please!
